North Carolina Wildlife Federation Works to Ensure a Wildlife Conservation Property Tax Relief Bill Passed Successfully
Friday, December 12, 2008(National Wildlife Federation)
The North Carolina Wildlife Federation worked diligently in 2008 to ensure a wildlife conservation property tax relief bill passed successfully. Through their advocacy efforts, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted legislation to create a Wildlife Use Value Program that assists private landowners who manage their property to benefit wildlife. For the land to qualify as "wildlife conservation land" for the reduced tax valuation, it must be a minimum of 20 contiguous acres, have been owned for the previous five years, and be managed under a written conservation agreement with the state wildlife agency to be sure wildlife and its habitat will be improved. Refer to Session Law 2008-171 North Carolina H.B. 1889 for detailed legislative information or refer to page 10 in the Fall 2008 NCWF Journal for information.
