Governor to sign National Hunting and Fishing Day proclamation

Governor Sam Brownback is scheduled to sign a proclamation declaring Saturday, September 26 as National Hunting and Fishing Day in Kansas. The signing will take place in the ceremonial governor’s office in the State Capitol, Friday, August 28 at 9:30 a.m. National Hunting and Fishing Day was established in 1972 to celebrate and recognize hunters and anglers for their immense contributions to fish and wildlife conservation, and to our society.

Hunters and anglers support all of Kansas’ wildlife and fisheries programs through their purchases of licenses and permits, along with the federal excise taxes they pay on hunting and fishing equipment. This American System of Conservation Funding – a “user pays – public benefits” approach is widely recognized as the most successful model of fish and wildlife management in the world and is used by all 50 states.
